If there was ever any doubt of it, Krosp is indeed a cat.

I had assumed that he was just quietly working out what sort of person Agatha was, but now that we know Dr Dim was Krosp's creator so how that encounter went was doubly important.
Thanks for the reminder!
Perhaps he was not entirely, or even primarily, talking about the rag bears?

• Klaus replica, realizing being had is not an event, but a state, and sometimes state of the art?
• Tarvek, who knows something others didn't bother to find out (like with Vole)?
• Some "old friend"?

Besides the combination of characters and how they complicate matters, this is NOT anything like what Albia was expecting.

Perhaps Krosp thinks Albia has the expertise to repair his brain.

He's brought Vapnoople to a place Wulfenbach doesn't control. Paris is closed. Krosp and the bears have their "Papa". It's more emotional than logical.

In the novel, Krosp says he hid his intelligence, "Which, in retrospect, might have been a mistake." So whoever scheduled him for termination (who may *not* have been Klaus, we're never told) didn't know he was intelligent.
Though given what we've since learned, I can see being leery of a Vapnoople "masterpiece". And it's not like Krosp is all that moral himself. But it seems like the Baron would still have given Krosp rope to hang himself with, rather than killing him immediately.
