So Zola has the Command Voice - has she obtained it from the Lucrezia gestalt trapped in her head, or has Lu managed to weasel enough access to take control?

Someone had better come up with a way of de-wasping people, or else at some point Colette may end up having to destroy most, if not ALL of the citizens of Paris...

Or has Zola, using the information contained in the copy of Lucrezia in her neural trap, figured out a way to imprint the wasps in the mini-engines with her voice instead of Lucrezia's?

(It has never been established whether Zola is a Spark or not.)

Or is Zola's voice, because she's a Mongfish, close enough to Lucrezia's for her to take control without any other modifications?

Does Zola have the Command Voice? I can't recall seeing any signs of it.
Anevka does have it (Tarvek copied Agatha's voice for her) and she has a new head with Lucrezia in it! Surely she's around here somewhere...

I believe it's an open question. I don't recall any revenants ever being within earshot of Zola in what we've seen of the story.

Actually Zola probably -does- sound like Lucrezia. Lu heard a voice she recognized here: date=20110221

My take on that page is Zola is too weak - possibly unconscious - to fight Lucrezia. I don't see it as Zola pretending. Lucrezia does seem to be heard as Lucrezia in a copy when she is in control. The example is when Lu-in-Agatha orders Vrin to die. Agatha was unable to do more that distract Vrin. When mom gained control, Vrin immediately responded.

It isn't a question of being too weak, or of Lucrezia temporarily in control of Zola. (For one thing, Zola lies to Lunevka.) The copy of Lucrezia in Zola's head is not in a situation similar to the one in Agatha's head. Lucrezia's mind is captured in a "neural trap" in Zola's brain, and she can't get out.

Fifth panel: "Curse this wretched weak body!"

This attracts Lunevka in the sixth panel: "Ah, now that sounds like someone ! ... OH!!"

Zola is in bad shape. Tarvek beat her unconcious. Not to mention all the "Moveit #11" still clearing from her system.

Whatever you or I think a "neutral trap" may be, it might not be what the Foglios think " (or changed their minds or forgot - like is it Margarella or Margolottta Selnikov?).

Again , just how I read this.

IMO, it's implied from the conversation between Zola and Terebithia:

"...SURELY they'll still let me SING..." (Zola knows about the wasping and wants to imprint the Parisian populace upon her covertly)
"...if you so much as make a PEEP..." (Terebithia knows that if Colette hears =ANY= unknown examples of the Command Voice in use, she will react swiftly, and VIOLENTLY, and Colette can hear =everything= that goes on in Paris now...)
"...You've got most of Paris all primed and ready to fall at your feet - DON'T YOU?"

I'm sure she has a Command Voice. The open question is whether she has Lucrezia's Command Voice or a different Command Voice, one specifically tuned to the wasps from the new mini-engines.

(For the record, I think her voice probably is close enough to Lucrezia's that that it qualifies as the Command Voice. But you never know ... especially since Zola intends to double-cross Lucrezia/Lunevka/Lucrezia-in-Agatha.)

Lu's voice is =the= Command Voice - no-one that has been wasped is able to resist. There are familial variations on it, and generally whoever imprints a revenant first has the greatest influence over it, but Lu has shown that hers can override others.

If they had been able to recreate Lu's specific control without Lu, they wouldn't have bothered with trying to retrieve her.

No, you have the sense of my hypothesis backwards. Aaronev tried to re-create Lucrezia's voice because the existing wasps obeyed that voice -- because that's how Lucrezia engineered those wasps.

If Zola engineered the new mosquito-sized wasps from the new mini-engines, the new wasps might be tuned to obey her voice. They might be tuned to obey Zola's voice even if Lunevka created the new wasps, because Lunevka thinks that Zola is being controlled by a copy of Lucrezia and it would be useful for The Other to control them from Zola's body.

But as I said, I suspect that Zola's voice is close enough to Lucrezia's voice to be the Command Voice. I just don't want to rely on an assumption that might turn out to be incorrect.

Sparkiness is hard to hide. It tends to come out under stress. Zola's reaction to extreme duress was to chug Movit #11 and go on a suicidal attack run, not grab items lying around Castle Heterodyne and build something.

And Zola's been acting like Lucrezia as 'Queen of the Dawn', but not creating any new Sparky stuff that Gil's run across.

Sparks tend to have specialties. Maybe Zola's specialty is rage or deviousness ...

And nobody thought that Colette had the Spark, either, even though Colette wasn't trying to hide it.

I'm not saying Zola is a Spark, I'm just trying to keep from prematurely ruling out the possibility.

Colette didn't have the Spark; we saw her break through.

Given her family, Zola would certainly be a candidate for such. But there's no more reason to think she *is* a Spark than there is for Punch and Judy, or Moloch, or Violetta.

Ah but when I posted the main page was not up yet. However the .jpg was up so I shared via the Sneaky Gate instead.

Here (Brisbane, Australia) the Professors often upload the .jpg at around 2 to 3pm (local time), and then 30 or 40 minutes later the main page gets updated. If I'm at my desk (at work) I check regularly :-)

I noticed the similar spiky part earlier, and wondered if she was a spark. I was about to say "not all female sparks have the spiky mad-scientist hair" but I see that Lucrezia does also have it - date=20041206

What does that mean for Terebithia? I dunno...
