Stross's Starfish (Quinquedimensio lauandi) feeds by everting its stomach into 3-space, digesting its immediate environment, then reabsorbing the soupy result back into its higher dimensions. This process is best studied from a long distance away. Keep in mind that anything line-of-sight in 3-space is, from Quinquedimensio's point of view, not a long distance; and that anything causally connected is at best medium-range.

Is there a list for mad scientists like the one for evil overlords? If so, it should include, "I will read and understand all relevant instruction manuals before undertaking incredibly dangerous experiments."

Hmm -- I suppose she MIGHT want to do something to the machine and can't leave for that reason.

Is Agatha going to prove her empathy again, and treat the monster not as a tool for herself, but as an entity with rights and feelings?

There's still a chance that the "monster" and the being that's experiencing time backwards are different aspects of the same entity.
