(By the way, if I correctly recall some reported Word of God, Tarvek should get a pleasant surprise soon regarding one of his supposed failures.)

So on Zulenna's death the cat is well out of the bag.

Tarvek sounds impressive at first, but as I've been rereading the page to comment on it, I notice that really all he's regretting is his lack of success. "I've never had any real power in the family." He admits to dirty tricks, but what he regrets is that they didn't work. And he still doesn't own up to his role in letting Lucrezia take over the Anevka clank.

He couldn't control Lucrezia who controlled the Geisters, particularly Vrin - ALL of whom where present, albeit asleep. He still believed the Baron's Quester had arrived. You all think he could kill Vrin and the Geisters in the room (there are hundreds more in Sturmhalten) and convince Lucrezia they all died in battle with him and Anevka and her bearers? Lucrezia thought Anevka was just a puppet. And just how would he deal with Lucrezia? He knows Agatha is still there so he isn't inclined to kill her (Klaus would. He already tried.)
He was alone against multiple opponents and, yes, acting primarily in his own interests. But to do anything, he had to stay alive. Surrendering to the Baron was suicide. Klaus would have him shot even at this point of the story.
His actions fall under "the fog of war' - decisions made on limited intelligence. Decisions that need to be quickly. From his perspective, Lucrezia was his only immediate path of survival.

I'm not saying Tarvek is pure of heart. He is not. He made decisions based on his experiences. upbringing, and the current situation as he knew it.

I'll comment no further on this subject. I don't wish a flame war.

The fact Tarvek elicits such reaction from readers is what makes him such a fun character.

I just love how people bash him yet he's in good company. Much of the other cast is just as messed up.

All three of the Jagers and Higgs are all guilty of genocide and numerous atrocities through their hundreds of years of service to Heterodynes.

Othar is a serial killer of Sparks.

Violetta is an assassin.

Zeetha enjoys killing far to much and, if fan theory is to be believed, was on a mission to kill her brother.

And that's just to name the obvious ones.

It's increasingly looking like taking over Anevka was Lucrezia 's idea not Tarvek's. In which case, yes, against such odds, how would he have countered that and lived? Its looking like he was hoping to free Agatha from her Lucrezia, then use his secret trump card to shut down clank Lucrezia.

No need for a flame war. I'm just saying Tarvek's agonizing doesn't raise my opinion of him. He's a fictional character, and others may take different views.

I've been wondering if we'd ever see Zulenia again. but, it looks like if we ever do, she won't be PRINCESS Zulenia anymore.

It depends. On exactly how far this cat got out of the bag, and on whether there are any un-wasped legitimate contenders other than her (in which case succession is a bit of a… moot point).
Also, even if her current status is reset, she can "become" Princess of Holfung-Borzoi (or another place) by the right of conquest. After all, she got some good sense, she got allies and she can fight. :]
