Lars' death had a specific plot purpose - to bring home to Agatha the seriousness of her position and a hint of what it will cost.
There is also the mismatch of social position -Lars was correct in his dying words. A commoner like himself was out of place next to a powerful Spark and Noble like Agatha. It just wouldn't work in the long run.
Violetta may be implied to be dead. We are two pages from the end-of-volume cliffhanger. Fortunately, the online keeps going.
I'll be shocked if the Foglio's actually DO kill her.
So far there's no body, and we know about Smoke Knights' tricks. But Steelgarter must be a far better fighter than she first gave an impression of being, if she was able to walk away even thinking she'd won.
But if she's such a fighter, why is she quitting right after winning? And above all, who is she talking to?
Further thought (suggested by someone on Reddit): Violetta faked her death so she could follow Steelgarter. That fits with the latter's apparent amateurishness.
That, or Violetta defeated Steelgarter, interrogated her with a truth serum dart, and then disguised herself as Steelgarter. Which is why the lower two arms aren't working.
Well, she obviously hid the body. But yeah, her conclusion may be a little too bold, seeing how Violetta is a Smoke Knight. Especially if she doesn't know much specific about their tricks. Zola was all sedated and contained, right until she wasn't, and Madwa was surely-this-time-down-for-good too.
