Rather old question for discussion

While rereading the story, I was puzzled by this page.

Why does Othar like the Heterodynes? He did try to kill her just for being a Spark.

So why does her being a Heterodyhne change things?

Her father and brother were Heroes -- I don't know if Othar met them, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did, or modeled his heroing on theirs -- and Othar loves the Heterodyne plays and goes to all the shows and knows all the lines.

... though re-reading those, I'm wondering how Othar and Theo fell to talking rather than Othar also trying to kill him for being a spark.

Her father and uncle. Or, her father and his brother.

Agatha's brother is problematic.

Yes, oops. Bill and Barry were heroes.

Klaus Barry wasn't problematic except by virtue of being unfortunately deceased until Agatha showed up as a previously unknown Heterodyne child. (Do we know how old Agatha is relative to how old Klaus Barry should have been? I keep wondering if Lucrezia built her from KB's genes or something similarly awful. But Barry knew she existed, so if she was a secret project of Lucrezia's, she didn't stay secret ...)

Since Barry himself was secret, I think she was still secret then.

The impression I have is that after Othar learned that the Other was on the loose, he put his obsession about exterminating Sparks on hold. Dealing with the Other had to have higher priority.

Also, add Tarvek to the list of Sparks that Othar isn't trying to kill.

That makes sense - Othar modeling himself after Bill an Barry.

He seems to quickly notice that Tarvek is an ally of Agatha's (and a bit more than that). He is even restraining himself with Gil.

according to the authors themselves; once Othar found out she was the daughter of one of his heroes, he moved her into the category of "potential love interest" in the story in his head.
