And... Murgatroyd gets a genuine, honest-to-goodness No Prize (TM Stan Lee), slightly used but in the original box!

Oh, gosh. I just had a terrible, terrible thought -- inspired by jhameia's comment. It's a wild-ass guess, but a spoiler in the unlikely event that I'm right. You have been warned.

(Dang. Apparently cut tags don't work in comments.)

Krosp is a construct, an intelligent cat. How would someone suitably sparky, such as Dr. Dim, create an intelligent cat? By transplanting a human brain into a cat's skull! But a cat's skull is pretty small, so it would have to be a small human brain ... likely from a very small human.

Can you guess who I suspect Krosp "really" is? That would solve a lot of problems, wouldn't it? And Agatha has already sworn allegiance to him, so there wouldn't be any succession controversies!

No, we know from "The Secret Blueprints" that Krosp was made using a piece of the brain from an unnamed General.

I'm guessing that you were thinking that Klaus used the brain of baby Klaus Heterodyn. But, Klaus was gone for about 4 years and Klaus-Barry H would have been too decayed for any parts of him to be used. And, we don't know that Klaus knew the location of tomb were he was kept.

Klaus didn't create Krosp. Dr. Dmitri Vapnoople did. Klaus defeated and captured him after he'd created the Swartwalders but BEFORE he could create/finish the controller - his masterpiece. http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20150223#.WvBQeYgvztQ
Klaus studies the spark by watching a spark work. Dr. Dim said Krosp was the Emperor of All Cats as a cover to both hide the bears and Krosp's real purpose. The Mongfish/Order seems to be involved as Martellus was Vapnoople's apprentice.

I knew that, I didn't mean to imply that Klaus made Krosp, only that he might have provided the brain.

I was trying to answer Murgatroyd666's line:

"Can you guess who I suspect Krosp "really" is? That would solve a lot of problems, wouldn't it? And Agatha has already sworn allegiance to him, so there wouldn't be any succession controversies!"

I'm guessing that M666 thinks that Krosp is "really" Klaus-Barry H. I Don't think hes right.

Actually, I don't see it either. Even though the Secret Blueprints are now semi-canon, Krosp's military mind is consistent with it.

Just to be icky-picky and irritating (sorry), the time line on Klaus' absence was a bit fuzzy for a while (as were other time lines). The first printing of the first novel said Klaus was gone for four years. Fans quickly pointed out Klaus Barry was born 27 months after Klaus disappeared and Der Kestle was attacked 13 months after that - 3 years, 4 months. Then Bill and Barry battle the Other for three years. Shortly after, Klaus returns. The second printing of the first novel has Klaus gone for six years. Which also helps the time line for Gil being four years older than Agatha by giving Klaus time to get friendly with Zantabraxis, produce progeny, then split with one month old Gil. Zeetha, in the novels, says Chump left Skifander when she was one month old.

It is clear the Foglio's hadn't given much thought to time lines as the Secret Blueprints had Bill and Barry fighting the Other for one year.

AND...I'll shut up now. As well as not getting long winded on this site in the future.

I think authors are rarely prepared for how much there fans can obsess over little details. It would have been better if they'd been more vague about it. Klaus could have just said "I was gone for only a few years and.." This would have covered it.

Authors should also have detailed time-lines on there walls with all the stuff noted so they don't lose track of things.

Some speculation:

If Van Rijin the spark is really Rembrandt Van Rijin the artist, and the muses are over 200 years old, then that puts the GG universe in the late 1800's we know that Klaus-barry H was born in XX72, so 1872 That means:

1869 - Baron W disapears, L&W marry.
1872 - KBH is born (Gilgamesh born too?)
1873 - Other attacks castle H, KBH is killed, War with the Other begins, Agatha is born?
1876 - War with the Other ends
1891 - GG vol1 begins, Agatha is 18, Gil is 22

This all makes me want to tear my hair out.

Did it take Klaus 4 years to get home from Skifander?
How did he keep Gil a secret during the early years of building his empire?

I really hope we get the next novel soon. A friend of mine who went to Gencon last year talked to Phil, who said the next novel should be out this year. After that the novels should start to outpace the comic. Kaja said that would happen.

I think authors are rarely prepared for how much there fans can obsess over little details.

But this is a BIG mystery/adventure story with lots of little details, any of which could turn out to be Important Clues. Of course we're going to obsess! ;^)

Also, as long as time portals are a plot element, the date of Klaus-Barry's death is pretty much irrelevant. And the swipe could have been carried out from any point in the future ... possibly even by Krosp himself to ensure his own existence! If performed quickly, the brain swipe might have been timed to take advantage of the circumstances of K-B's death -- if it was messy, perhaps nobody would have noticed that his corpse was missing anything.

I don't believe it, but I put it up as a possibility.

Krosp rarely looks happy.

But, yeah, right now, it is cause for concern. Krosp has been generally ignored and/or dismissed. That is about to change.

I'm amused by this relieved expression of the captain.
The question is, whose turn will be next.

I just noticed its 3 years and 1 day since we last saw Krosp. That's quite awhile.
