Have Chakraborty & Boris even asked Captain Patel anything after shooting him, patching him up, and weasel-checking him, or did they go straight to running through anti-mind-control options? Patel might be an un-tampered-with loyal agent of Klaus', who'd be ordered to evacuate the ship and crash it on Mechanicsburg when the time stop ended (or something like that).
IIRC, Boris (as a construct) can't be wasped (which doesn't mean he's immune to other mind control options); no idea about Captain Chakraborty, though I imagine the wasp eaters had a chance to sniff him when he greeted them and he's had whatever preventatives are available for known methods of mind control. The two of them and Captain Patel had been deliberately kept out of communications (by Klaus's orders? Patel's?). Boris only has Chakraborty's word on Patel's behavior and the lack of communications. Chakraborty could be compromised. Or this could be straight-up communication issues, with Klaus having had to send very limited and/or odd orders to work around being mind-controlled himself.
I think "modified human" is one class of things that counts as a construct. (Whether there are minor modifications that don't count for wasping purposes ...?) Adam and Lilith count as constructs, and I think Klaus does, too.
Wild speculation: the spark wasp was tuned for sparks, not construct-sparks, so its hold on Klaus is not as strong as it would be on an unaltered spark. (That he's far better than average at bending orders is likely, too.)
Constructs are not magically immune to enslavers just because. Some happen to be too modified to be compatible, sure. The Jagers are immune, but their origin and properties are⦠unusual.
The Jaegers are an interesting case, but apparently everyone from Mechanicsburg is also immune to slaver wasps (only tourists found to be infected), so maybe that's not about the Jaegers in particular? (Unless that's from generations of Jaeger offspring marrying into the population to the point that everyone in Mechanicsburg is descended from at least one Jaeger & got the right genes, or epigenetics, or ...)

Date: 2025-04-12 09:16 pm (UTC)I thought there'd been an assertion that constructs were (usually?) immune, but would have to go hunting for a reference.
