The Dreen methodology here seems to be ... chaotic. In theory Agatha exacted a promise that they keep her town safe, and they agreed that the battle wouldn't happen ... if they didn't? I'm not sure Agatha's perspective and theirs lined up all that well. "Fine! We will do it the stupid boring way!" isn't much of a promise.
