I would have expected the big monster to be clearly visible to the Black Squad and, once he was mobilized by contact, the Baron. Perhaps it was obscured by smoke and the lantern allowed it to clear up?
Perhaps, when the Dreen told the Castle where to send the Torchmen and acted like they were doing it a great favor, they were getting a screen between their Great Hunt and Castle Wulfenbach. It is also possible that the big favor that won him their service is the Castle's inadvertent assistance in the hunt. However I think it more likely that the timestop is that favor.
Where did the Dreen tell Caste Heterodyne anything? Is that in the fourth novel? It's not in the online comic. the last novel ends the story which is still continuing online.
