Has it been established whether the other cat is male or female? For some reason I had the impression it was female.
(Orange cats are usually, but not always, male. The orange coat color is determined by a recessive gene on the X chromosome, so a female must have the gene on both X chromosomes to turn out orange.)
I believe this is the female cat who Krosp was talking about with Martellus way back, when Krosp was bemoaning her hanging all over him but not up to his standards. At the end of that scene, Martellus takes her and looks at her with interest, which implied that he was going to do SOMETHING to alter her. Obviously at least one of those things was to make her his chemical rescue, but many believe he would have made her smart as well, and in at least one place I've heard of her being referred to as "Empress" (my understanding is that was part of the title for that section, after the fact).
Phil's drawing style certainly implies she is female as well.
