What is the Heart of the Muse, and who or what are those four looking at?

I wonder if the 'heart' is something that inspired the creation of the Muses. It may not look or work anything like a regular heart (living or mechanical).

Very likely it refers to this event, almost exactly a year ago our time.

Ahhh, but what they found is almost certainly not what they are looking at right now.

And because I genuinely have no idea I'm going to guess it's a bunch of giant cat-shaped clanks.
And they have frickin-lasers attached to their heads.

Whatever they're looking at is giving off a red glow.

My bet is it's the heart.

If it's what Aldin and Larana found -- and I suspect it is -- it's small enough to fit into a pocket. So why is it above their heads?
