He's ... a human wearing a rat costume? He's got a shirt on under his fur crop-top (is that rat fur?!), and the tail seems to be attached to that, and I think he's got close-fitting shoes (same color/stuff as the tail?) on rather than having bare feet, as his ankles are a different shade. Was he hiding behind the rock the clank tapped, or under it? It seems to be in a different orientation in the fifth panel than in the fourth.

How rare to get a GG character who isn't a badass.

It looks to me as though he was hiding under the rock-like thing. And that he's wearing a very tattered giant rat skin.

Speculation on FB is that he's a survivor of a previous crash, and he's survived by managing somehow to kill a rat and pretending to be one of them.

If so, how astonishingly lucky for the party that he's the first being they found.

If the speculation elmegil mentioned above is anything like correct, he's a badass at survival, stealth, and/or disguise. Not all characters are *combat* badasses -- people have specialties. (And some people are lower overall power than others -- see, say, the circus, and the townfolk they entertain.)

Tweedle is often useful, too. But I think they both rank their own objectives above Agatha's.

"Don't turn your back on him" doesn't preclude usefulness.

The screaming is odd if he's an expert at survival. It seems contrived, as if he's trying to distract their attention from something else. Agatha said, "If you want people to believe what they see, show them what they want to believe." Monahan may know the same trick.
