We know from https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20180827 that Rakethorn is Albia's agent, and does not necessarily have Agatha et al.'s best interests in mind...so, I'm thinking more the former.

Indeed, but it seems plausible-to-likely (to me, anyway) that they're allies vs. Steelgarter, Madwa, and Monahan. That said, conflict may arise as soon as they have the lantern in hand, when Agatha will want to take it to Mechanicsburg and Rakethorn will want to take it (and Agatha) to Albia.

At the moment, however, open conflict with Albia is NOT in Agatha's best interests.

Eventually we may learn that open conflict with Agatha is not in Albia's best interests, either.
