In this world, I can easily imagine situations in which it's better to get out of the sky *now* rather than be a sitting duck high up.

In that particular case, landing too near Mechanicsburg would probably be almost as bad as being caught in the air by the torchmen. Sudden extreme weather, perhaps, or things like Gil's lightning rod ... maybe?

The button could be useful for aborting a takeoff, if something becomes obviously wrong as soon as the airship leaves the ground.
