...and she is a friend of Tarvek.

So is Marty going to continue with the conspiracy's plan? You know, the part where the Storm King rescues and then marries the Heterodyne girl?
Or is the first priority ensuring that there's no one that disputes his claim to the crown?

Oh, and nice hat Abraxus...

I called this one. Martellus considers Colette his vassal by right of conquest, but he'll wait till he has the upper hand to make his move.

He HAS had his moments of sense. After his failure with Agatha, perhaps he will try to persuade her (with some grace) to a dynastic marriage.

Also possible.

Perhaps, on the third hand, he means to woo her, and things will go downhill from here to prevent it.

Even he doesn't realize it, I think Marty is (perhaps slowing) falling in love with Agatha. He was unusually calm about being attacked with a chair (date=20130515), and seemed to show genuine concern for her safety (date=20130830), so I think a marriage proposal (even if unwelcome) may be coming.

Colette and Tarvek appear to be friends, but Colette clearly sees the potential threat Martellus poses. Other than both fighting The Other I can't see them in any sort of union.

I've always assumed that Tarvek and Gil where about the same age, and that Marty was a few (two or three?) years older. Do the novels give clues to their ages?

I think both were selectively bred to have the right attributes, and both are considered to be successful/viable candidates.

Here in the real world when the HRH Queen Elizabeth II dies her eldest son - Charles - will be King, and when he dies his eldest son - William - will be King.
If one of Charles' brothers - Andrew or Edward - had married and had children before Charles then their children would still be behind Charles' children in order of succession.
If Europa follows a similar system (and I assume it would) then Martellus could be older than his cousin Tarvek and still be second in line.

Girls (now) equal in British throne succession:

Again if Europa works on a similar system (pre being changed in 2011) then Xerxsephnia and/or Terebithia may have been excluded from (or pushed right back) in the succession order for the Lightning Crown.

Interesting!
Sweden was the first country in the world (AFAIK) to adopt absolute primogeniture in 1980. Only a handful of European monarchies have followed suit, so if GG!Europa is at all similar to our Europe, it's probably agnatic primogenture that's the norm. (But since it's a Parallel Fantasy Europe, we can't be sure.)

During their childhood friendship, Tarvek and Gil certainly seemed the same age.
