Well, he is under Grandma's protection. Martellus has openly claimed the throne which should make Tarvek a much lesser threat.

I'm still waiting for Agatha to see him, realize he's alive, and in front of all these people, scream "Tarvek!" and throw herself on him. (That's just my dream)

And when does Gil get here?

And more importantly, given the situation, where is Bang!? I'm sure she would enjoy a good fight about now.

Dreamwidth didn't show the link to today's comic as a link. Trying again here for convenience.

It leaves Tarvek effectively still in hiding. Seffie knows he's here, which means Martellus knows he's here, and Marty is going to want him dead. Dead with no chance of recovery.
Him having supporters (Agatha, Colette, and even Grandma) will just make Marty even more determined, not less.

I'm just wondering which form of Bad-Things-Happen will happen next to Tarvek. I suspect we'll find out soon...

Kaja has said "Tarvek's life sucks." but I don't see Martellus going against Grandma.

My thoughts on a public display of affection by Agatha toward Tarvek in front of the cream of Paris Society would bring to mind The Prophesy. Plus her outright coolness toward Martellus would be noted. Killing Tarvek after that wouldn't help Martellus' image. At least, it wouldn't be traceable to him and not in public.

His life sucks because Gil has Agatha's heart. He has acknowledged that fact.

Huh. At least half the people in the last panel have brown skin.

Not surprising.

The Voltaire family is large and influential, after all.

Obviously this version of France has an even more closely knit history with the lands of northern Africa than our version of France. (And obviously less colonial in nature.)

Less colonial ... or maybe the French did something to a colony that forced its people to flee to Europa in large numbers.

True, but these people don't act as if there were a history of colonialism. They seem like a fully integrated part of every social strata, including the highest, which is not really the case in present day France (which does have large numbers of inhabitants from former colonies).

I find that rather refreshing.

Then of course, the history of Europa has probably been more about Sparks subjugating non-Sparks than Europans subjugating non-Europans. :)

As we observed a while back when discuss skin color among Sparks -- Sparks don't care! If you can do Sparkie madness together, you're one of them!

This might mean their subjects and subordinates mix much more than in our Europe. Not a little helped by Spark transportation!

Is Bang from France? I never realised that.
EDIT: Although the name "Dupree" does indicate that, yes. Silly me.

The very first apparent French person we meet in this story is Hugo Glassvitch who is dark skinned. In our world French and Swahili are the common languages of Africa. The Foglios just allowed for a more diverse and integrated world in cosmopolitan Paris. Talent knows no color, race, or sex.

Europa in general isn't that racially diverse. Dark skins other than J├Ąger green were rare (Dupree is the first who comes to mind) before the scene moved to Paris. I suspect the Foglios saw the new setting as an opportunity to catch up.

I doubt making Parisians dark skinned is 'catching up'. I'm pretty sure the Professors had that detail planned in from before the first page was published.
There are plenty of characters and plot details that get a mention early in the story and then many years later get introduced/revealed.
Colette for example appears in 'The Works' card game:
http://girlgenius.wikia.com/wiki/Colette_Voltaire
http://girlgenius.wikia.com/wiki/The_Works

I'm also sure there's still a vast amount of plot and new characters already planned which we will see and meet before Agatha, Gil and Morloch operate the time traveling device that Bang sees them use.
